The Inscription Coding Nightmare or How I changed M.O.X's Color
I found it interesting in all of the discussions that I have seen on here about "making Tyrian inscribable weapons" or "Canthan drops with Inscriptions" that a lot of the responses were, "It would be a coding nightmare" or "keep it the way it is! Go to NF or EOTN for that!" Apparently it isn't a coding nightmare, because it just happened with the green weapons that were just released. It also happened as a complete accident. I am of the mind that if you can double-click the new M.O.X. mini to change his color, why not keep the new greens dye-able. It was interesting to see this stuff none the less when I was convinced by so many on here that it would be just way too hard to do.

Changing M.O.X.'s color is an easy mod to make with TexMod. Only simple substitution is required. Simply capture all textures for all the different colors, and then create a mod that replaces all the other colors with the one you want. Then you don't have to double click over and over until it randomly appears. It would probably have the same effect on the M.O.X. hero.
There is really no logical connection between the M.O.X. mini changing color, adding inscriptions to Tyria and Cantha, or allowing specific greens to be upgraded or dyed.

It probably would be pretty easy to make it so that all new weapons that dropped in tyria and cantha are inscribable.
BTW, they made all old armor capable of taking insignias, so retrofitting weapons would be possible. Why they didn't back then is beyond me.

I agree new greens should be inscribable at this point. Green drops really aren't any kind of prize anymore. Who wants the inventory bloat of something you can't even mod to fit any build?

Greens were devalued by the inscription system, yet without that system it makes 99% of all drops worthless.
Only folks that argue against inscriptions are the speshul crowd who want their little valuable rare weapons to remain so.
They could simply keep all the current items and have only new item drops from tyria/cantha inscribable. old items remain valuable forever and these new items become useful.
They have mentioned a number of times they aren't gonna change this system, either to avoid the tidal wave of butthurt from the rareRED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOs or maybe they think the inscription system of nightfall is a selling point.
As with most changes being made to the game these days, why bother reinventing the wheel now? GW1 is marked for death.

i aint bothered what weapons i use...but i like the non inscribable as i can farm them and make a nice profit out of them...inscribable 20/20 prot platinum staff inscribable 5k...20/20 non insc 500 ecto...see what im saying...leave what tiny tiny fun some of us have left in the game (the hope of a very good and valueble drop alone)...
yes its easy...yes it could be done...should it be done...no.. u want insc canthan/tyrian...head yourself off to zeishen chest.

It's never been about coding.
It's because a lot of people (myself included) prefer non-inscription items because perfect ones feel rarer.
And... dear god, changing a texture in a game = changing a line in the game's code. WTF are you talking about?

I bought a Gold Q9 sephis axe 15^50 +30 yadda yadda for over 500k. Then inscribables made it worth 500g
How is that fair to me?

Personally I really enjoy the old Prophecies/Factions drop system, despite it being far from ideal, and I would really hate to see them nerfed. I know I'm not the only one who do. For me it's not that much about killing value of what I have but losing the ability to find nice ORIGINAL rarities, ones that feel much better than just "a skin" and "a pile of separate mods".
Retroactive changes are good ONLY IF:
-they're good. as opposed to being bad. /doh
-they're strict improvements - they aren't changing anything into worse as a side-effect,
-there are strong reasons for implementing them and NO good reasons against,
-applying them won't hurt the game experience of a significant portion of the playerbase, be it ~40% (as a poll on a different thread about this topic suggested) or 10% or just 5%
-they're not unnecessarily changing the way something works if it's not broken,
-they don't remove differences that make older content more special and unique just for the sake of making everything the same.
In this case the coding difficulty is nothing compared to the lots of negative consequences it would bring. It's clearly not a good change and doing nothing is a better choice than doing something that dramatic.

if you read what this was about you would see it has nothing to do with them changing it, and everything to do with how people have discussed it. ANET has made responses before that they couldn't do it, and yet as a mistake it was done. I am the OP of this thread and I never once suggested in my original post that anything should be changed. That would belong in Sardelac. This was a commentary on what had happened. Last time I checked, RIverside was still the place for discussion.

WHO? exactly, because I've NEVER heard that excuse been used. Which is why I find this thread of yours so ridiculous and nonsensical.
Hell, even in the ~50 page long thread we had on guru about this from years ago, I don't think that argument ever came up.
But since this issue has been discussed to absolute death before (like in that 50+ page long thread), can we just get a /close please?
